Ricoh's New 430DN Color Printer "What's the Real Cost"
What's the Total Cost of Ownership?
It's the combination of price paid for the printer along with the estimated cost for consumables and service.
Calculating the Cost of the Ricoh 430DN
Black Toner $84 with an expected yield of 24,000 pages = .0035
Cyan Toner $220 with an expected yield of 21,000 pages = .0105
Magenta Toner $220 with an expected yield of 21,000 pages = .0105
Yellow Toner $220 with an expected yield of 21,000 pages = .0105
Total Cost Per Page for the first 50,000 Pages = .035 cents for color and .005 cents for black (monochrome).
Now, you may be wondering why I mentioned the first 50,000 pages. The reason, is that after the first 50,000 pages other consumable items will be needed. These are listed below:
Color Photoconductor (Drums, 3 included)cost of $470 and a yield of 50K = .0094 per page
Black Photoconductor (Drum, 1 included) cost of $157 and a yield of 50K = .0031 per page
Waste Toner Bottle with a cost of $24 and a yield of 50K = .0005 per page
Transfer Unit with a cost of $143 and a yield of 100K = .00143 per page
Fuser/Maintenance Kit with a cost of $227 and a yield of 120K = .0019 per page.
So, after the first 50,000 pages you'll have a cost per page of .0513 for color and .0104 for monochrome. The cost per page does not include service or labor. While I'm on the service and labor kick, I've seen customers buy color lasers printers and then dump them when they reach the first time they have to invest in consumables other than toner, they'll then go out and get another new system to keep the low cost per page, plus they don't incur any additional service costs.
Cost for 150,000 color pages (with cost of printer) without service/labor is $8,079. I would throw in another $550 or so for service/labor and you'll have a cost of $8,629 and then we divide by the pages printed for the Total Cost of Ownership. The cost..... do we get a drum roll? Ta Da! .0575 per page for color. This is a very good cost per page!
These figure are based on a 20% page coverage, if you need samples of page coverage, take a trip here.
In a couple of days we'll look at the "Sweet" features of the Ricoh 430DN Printer. BTW the "D" stand s for Duplex and the "N" stands for Network>

New Ricoh 430DN Color Cost Per Page @ .038?
Take a look at this new Color Printer from Ricoh. Printer Showcase is stating a cost per page of .038 per page! Strange the numbers I have from Ricoh is .0513 per page for 20% coverage. All in all .0513 is very inexpensive also, just would like to know how they figured their cost per page?

Should I get a Ricoh or Canon?
My firm is deciding between Canon Brand digital copiers and Ricoh. Which should we choose and why?
"thewindmaster_11" has got it wrong about IKON, they are now owned by Ricoh and only sell Ricoh, thus he may not be a reliable source to answer your question of which is better, Ricoh or Canon. He does have a good point in reference to support. Check out support references from all parties involved.
Getting the right machine may depend on what type of business you are in and what type of volume you are looking to produce. The copiers of today are no longer about speeds and feeds, but rather what type of "apps' that can be added to improve your business process. Yes, today's copiers are similar to iphones, where apps can be loaded on the systems operating system to improve scanning, faxing, and document management, plus many additional options.
Another item to consider is what is the largest paper size that you will print, copy or scan from the unit, if you have no need for 11x17 scan, copy or print and your volume is under 15K per month, you could save thousands of dollars on a "A4" MFP device.
Ask the rep how long he or she has been with the company, as stated before there's a lot more to these devices than speeds and feeds and the new reps do not have the knowledge of those reps that have tenure in the business.

RICOH TEAMS WITH NUANCE TO DELIVER PERSONAL PAPERLESS DOCUMENT
RICOH TEAMS WITH NUANCE TO DELIVER PERSONAL PAPERLESS DOCUMENT MANAGER AND BRING PERSONALIZED SCANNING TO NETWORK MFP DEVICES
PHILADELPHIA, March 31, 2009 — Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Ricoh, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the “Personal Paperless Document Manager” (PPDM), a new desktop application that makes document scanning and conversion with network multifunction printer (MFP) devices easier, more personalized and more effective than ever before. PPDM, designed for the Ricoh family of MFPs under the Ricoh, Savin, and Lanier brands, empowers users to eliminate paper processes by scanning documents directly to folders on a desktop and into ECM solutions. The solution will be on display in the Nuance Meeting Room (MR351) at AIIM Exposition + Conference 2009 in Philadelphia, March 30 – April 2, 2009.
PPDM makes scanning personal by letting users customize the MFP touch-screen menus directly from their PC, without the need for IT resources or intervention. The user experience is enhanced due to the seamless integration of a powerful desktop application with intuitive icon-based selections on the MFP touch-screen. The solution allows scanning at the MFP with single icons for scanning to the desktop, network locations and content management systems such as Microsoft® SharePoint™. Finally, PPDM makes scanning far more effective by making it easy to accomplish many tasks – such as scanning to the desktop, creating a searchable PDF and converting to a formatted Word document – with one selection at the MFP.
“The addition of personalized scanning features within the PPDM solution is impressive, as users can now instantly customize their MFP touch-screen experience right from their computer. Ricoh Introduces New Color Laser Printers, MFPs for Small Office Market
The SP C231SF/SP C232SF will be the second generation of this unit. At this point I'm not sure who the OEM is, I have heard Ricoh, but I'm not entirely sure on this.
If you are going to buy this unit, I highly recommend purchasing the High Yield Supplies only. The MSRP is $162 per color cartridge (AIO) and the yield is about 6,000 pages for color and $125 per black cartridge (AIO) and the yield is about 6,500color pages, thus the cost per page on this device for full color is estimated at .1014 for color. If you use the low volume cartridges, you will see the cost per page jump to .1644. An AIO cartridge is an "All in One" cartridge, meaning it houses the toner, drum, cleaning blade and magnetic roller. The entire cartridge is replaced when the toner expires.
On to the Press Release:
Ricoh Americas Corporation has announced the addition of four new products -- the Aficio SP C231SF/SP C232SF color multifunction printers (MFPs), and the Aficio SP C311N/SP C312DN color laser printers -- designed for small and medium-size office environments.
These new products combine high-end features, fast color print speeds. and a compact footprint to provide users with efficient document solutions that lower a business' total cost of ownership.
All four products offer quick print speeds for both color and black-and-white jobs, with the Aficio SP C231SF/SP C232SF producing 21 pages-per-minute (ppm) and the Aficio SP C311N/SP C312DN printing at 26 ppm.
Along with improved output speeds, a new higher yield All-in-One print cartridge greatly reduces both per-page costs and the time spent on maintenance interruptions.
To boost overall productivity, users can print presentations and other critical business documents in crisp color, with resolutions of up to 2400 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi). In addition, the Aficio SP C231SF/SP C232SF have a 35-sheet Automatic Document Feeder, which quickly scans a document to reduce the time spent during multi-page copying, scanning, and faxing projects.
Building on Ricoh's environmental sustainability platform, the Aficio SP C231SF/SP C232SF and the SP C311N/SP C312DN offer fast warm-up times, as well as Energy Saver mode that greatly reduces power consumption when the machine is idle.
The Aficio SP C231SF and the SP C311N both have an MSRP of $899. The Aficio SP C232SF has an MSRP of $999, and the SP C312DN carries an MSRP of $1,149.
