Samsung announces premier color multifunction printer for high speed offices

19 November, 2009

Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, hasannounced its premier color laser multifunction printer (MFP), the MultiXpress CLX-8540ND. Having an MSRP of $USD 8,249.00, the CLX-8540ND is currently offered by Samsung's valued network of Service Dealers and OA Distributors.
"The CLX-8540ND is our flagship hybrid printer designed as a printer-copier solution for workgroups in large corporate environments and for copy-intensive small-to-mid size businesses," said Doug Albregts, vice president, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc. "Along with being one of the fastest digital color printers on the market, the CLX-8540ND also bridges the gap between Letter/Legal verses Ledger printers by including advanced printer and copier features usually only found on larger machines. What we've done is simplify the selection process for IT managers who are looking for a truly multifunctional printer."

The CLX-8540ND is one of the fastest color MFPs on the market capable of replacing or complementing bulky Ledger MFPs. The high volume of printing and copying required by large workgroups, such as government offices or university centers, are easily met by the CLX-8540ND's quick startup time, up to 40 pages per minute (PPM) output capability and up to a 100,000 sheet monthly duty cycle. To process multiple jobs, the CLX-8540ND is equipped with an 800 MHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The end result is print jobs and high resolution scans are processed, stored and handled quickly and easily. The optional paper tray capacity, expandable to 2,720 sheets, allows the CLX-8540ND to run large print jobs without interruption.

The CLX-8540ND's Real-Time Calibration Technology creates consistently clear, sharp color prints at 9,600 x 600 dpi. Samsung's Easy Color Manager software allows the convenience of on-screen adjustment of color balance, brightness, contrast and saturation. The Auto Color Detection feature alleviates the hassle of differentiating between color and black & white prints and automatically adjusts toner usage, saving money. Documents, either letter or legal, can also be scanned at an enhanced up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi and then saved, printed, e-mailed or faxed to any networked location.

The CLX-8540ND offers management tools to help minimize operating and maintenance costs. The modular design allows for upgraded accessories, such as a 2-bin finisher, a 4-bin mailbox and a High Capacity Feeder, to be easily installed and, in those rare cases, can be quickly serviced. The Samsung 7" color LCD display user interface is simple to use and can be configured to corporate preferences. For creating company letterhead and commonly used forms on the fly, there are form overlay and watermarking features provided to make it simple and flexible to maintain standardization.

Samsung Poised for #1 "Launches SIX new Laser Devices"

Below is a recent alert I picked up on "g" alerts thus confirming that "Sammy" is hot and heavy to become the number #1 provider of printers and MFD devices in the world.

Canon captured high copier market share in the late eighties and early nineties with their personal copiers, Sammy started with low end printers and MFD's and is poised to take additional market share from their Japanese counterparts!.

Here's the alert; Samsung Electronics on October 15 unveiled two monochrome laser printers, the ML-1915and ML-2580N, and four monochrome laser MFPs (multi-function peripherals), the SCX-4600, SCX-4623F, SF-650 and SF-650P, for immediate launch in the Taiwan market, according to Samsung Electronics Taiwan.

The six models feature Samsung-developed AnyWeb and Print Screen Button technologies, Samsung Taiwan indicated.

In the Taiwan market, Samsung aims to compete with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to become the largest laser MFP vendor and to become the third largest vendor, next to HP and Seiko Epson, in laser printers, Samsung Taiwan pointed out.

Samsung: New monochrome laser printers/MFPs

ML-1915 (US$124)

ML-2580N

SCX-4600 (3 functions in one)

SCX-4623F (4 in one)

Samsung CLP-770ND Review

- Samsung of Korea announced a new high speed color laser printer, the CLP-770ND offering:

- 4 tandem OPC drum design
- Top speed of 32ppm
- 720MHz processor in the built-in print controller
- Optional 80GB hard drive
- 11 second first color page out time
- 4 line LCD display
- Uses Samsugn universal print driver
- 256MB RAM (can upgrade to 768MB RAM)
- A4 design, letter/legal only
- 600 sheet paper capacity standard
- 120K/month maximum duty cycle

The CLP-770ND is feature-rich. Its high toner yield of up to 7,000 pages, ability to handle large volumes of paper (up to 1,100 pages) and impressive 120,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle makes the CLP-770ND a highly versatile device that meets the requirements of the most demanding of office environments. The substantial toner yield and large monthly duty cycle contribute to a competitive total cost of ownership. The CLP-770ND’s capabilities can be further enhanced with optional wireless connectivity.

The printer is easy to use, owing to its four-line LCD control panel and Compass Navigation system. The LCD panel makes it simple to read messages during the printing process, such as system alerts or status updates. The Compass Navigation system requires less buttons on the control panel, making it simpler and more intuitive to use the menu. This reduces the amount of training users need on the device and minimises trouble-shooting time.

In order to help corporate enterprises better manage their printing environment, the CLP-770ND is integrated with Samsung’s exclusive software solution, SyncThru™ Web Admin Service. With this solution, IT managers can easily and remotely manage the performance of a network printer, and reduce time to maintain devices with the addition of the hard disk drive and additional solutions including SyncThru™ Job Accounting and CounThru™.

“Enhancing our product portfolio to meet the needs of business customers is a key to extending our leadership in the printing marketplace,” said Graham Long, Vice President of Samsung’s European Printing Operation. “With this versatile new device, we have introduced features to meet customer requirements for high-end colour printing in the corporate office environment.”

Samsung Deals another Blow to MFP Giants (Ricoh, Canon, KonicaMinolta)

You here it from me over and over, A4 devices are the way to go!

Samsung has launched their 6555N Multifunctional System, a 55 page per minute device that incorporates a 7" LCD display, 1200x1200 dpi, max paper capacity of 3,240 sheets. The system will color scan out of the box along with an FCOT of 5 seconds, a FPOT of 8 seconds and a max monthly volume rating of 250,000 pages per month. Optional sorter/stapler, fax module and three additional paper trays are available. Get this, the MSRP is $3,995!!

First glimpse tells me that this system is based on the 6354n (45ppm) device, Samsung has changed from older the mono 7" screen to a color 7" screen and beefed the speed from 45 pages per minute to 55 pages per minute. From the picture it seems like the document feeder may have been changed also, not sure, I'll have to wait until I see one of these bad boys.

No 11x17 capability, but who the heck needs 11x17 anymore! Personally, I think the MSRP is two low. It should be more like $6,995, thus allowing dealers and salespeople the opportunity to upgrade older A3 devices to SCX-6555N. I have a few 6345N's in the field generating an average of 8,000 pages per month and no reported problems.

What's next for Sammy a 75ppm device, maybe 85ppm, are all of the A3 devices made by the likes of Ricoh, Canon, Fuji Xerox, KonicaMinolta overpriced? It all depends on if you need 11x17 to print copy or scan. Fact is, Sammy has plans on 75, 90 & 110 ppm systems!

Realizing, that the cost per page of the SCX-6555N is twice that of a 55ppm A3 device. The SCX-6555N still has a home in the SMB market place especially if the user is average 10,000 pages per month. At a cost per page of .016 the SCX-6555N will have a total cost of ownership of $13,995 with out any options. Take a similar A3 device that has an MSRP of $20,000 and a consumable cost (based on 600,000 pages) of $5,100, thsu we have a TCO of $25,100. That's a HUGE difference. Some will argue that the 55ppm A3 devices will last longer and have a larger paper supply, and I might agree, however I could buy three of the SCX-6555N's and still be under the $25,100.

What I'd really like to see is the likes of Ricoh, Canon, KonicaMinolta, Fuji Xerox to wake up and smell the coffee! We don't have to bring to market A4 devices with a very low MSRP, we can bring them in higher and we can sell the reliability, quality and a lower cost per page. Currently we are producing 55ppm A3 devices with cost per pages under a penny, why o why can't we do this with an A4 device!! Come on people Wake UP!!
